What Holiday Do You Want For The 2021 Scone Cup?

Filed in Just In by September 22, 2020

THE Upper Hunter Shire community has until October 14 to choose their Scone Cup 2021 holiday preferences by completing an online survey, or by writing a submission directly to the Upper Hunter Shire Council.

The Scone Cup Race Day will be held on Friday, May 14 at Scone Race Club and holiday arrangements will be determined by the New South Wales Minister for Industrial Relations, on the basis of evidence of community support.

Options for Scone Cup Day 2021:

  • No holiday arrangements;
  • A local event day where no penalty rates apply unless agreed at an individual workplace level;
  • A part day public holiday from noon to 6pm, which would reduce the burden on local businesses, particularly those in hospitality;
  • A half day public holiday from noon (as in previous years).

Previous years have shown survey respondents in favour of a half-day public holiday, with 47 percent of those surveyed  in 2019 preferring it to remain the same as previous years.

However, Council reported that the 2019 survey also showed a 37 percent increase towards support for a part-day public holiday.

After several years of community consultation, UHSC announced that holiday arrangements have never applied to the Merriwa and Cassilis districts, as they have not indicated support to extend holiday arrangements.

Holiday arrangements will apply to Aberdeen, Blandford, Bunnan, Ellerston, Gundy, Moonan Brook, Murrurundi, Parkville, Scone, Rouchel, Timor and Wingen.

Submissions for holiday preferences close on October 14, 2020 and can be made to the the General Manager by emailing council@upperhunter.nsw.gov.au.

Alternatively, letter submissions can be posted to PO Box 208 Scone, NSW 2337, or dropped into any Council office.

To take the online survey, visit Council’s website under Hot Topics, or click here.
