Letter: Tourism Pitch

Filed in editorletters by January 15, 2019

An open letter to The Hon Barnaby Joyce.

Dear Mr Joyce,

You may recall I recently wrote to you about an innovative plan to deliver coal directly to Australian homes. (See: Letter: Solar for Turkey and Ham)

This was to help us keep warm during future winter blackouts.

Well mate, we had another blackout today, and it got me thinking.

Being a resident in your constituency, I live in the little town of Murrurundi, as you know, our town is about to run out of water, and together with regular power blackouts, I reckon we could turn this into a positive.

You know your boss, Scomo is a former marketing genius, well how about you discuss with him my plan to run a tourism campaign.

Instead of people going overseas to holiday in third world countries, they can holiday right here and experience it all, except maybe tsunamis.

Regular blackouts, stinking hot weather, mini cyclones, no tap water, tours of dry river beds and empty dams, topped off with a nice Chinese meal at the bowling club.

We have a few pubs and a couple of motels, a caravan park and some B&B’s who would all welcome city folk staying by candle light.

Also, please give my kind regards to your mates who run cotton farms and steal our water.

Best wishes,

Dave Allen
Resident of Murrurundi
