Young Gun Helps Farmers

TO help local farmers, Skye Louise Newling has organised a mini-field day with expert suppliers, the Local Land Services veterinarian and the Rural Resilience Officer on hand, to give farmers advice and information.

Skye works MacCallum Inglis and is one of ten young people selected from throughout Australia to be part of the Australian Independent Rural Retailers (AIRR) young gun development program and is keen to use her skills to help local farmers.

“We won’t be selling any product on the day, it’s about giving people a break from the farm and helping them connect with,” said Skye.

“For example if someone is struggling with getting their horse to put on weight without enough feed around, they can speak to one of the feed reps recommendations on what can help them and what is the cheapest option” she said.

“Or with cattle, they can speak to someone about a dry lick, which cattle can lick to get minerals and supplements, with no hay and grass around it can be a good option,” she said.

“It’s not all about the drought, but there will be plenty of information available for a range of things on the farm,” she said.

“So, people can take a break from the farm for a few hours, have a sausage sizzle, get some information and have a catch-up,” said Skye Louise Newling.
