NSW will be enforcing the new law of public gatherings being limited to two people.

Police will have the power to issue $1,000 on the spot fines and people may be arrested and brought before the court, where they may face a six month gaol sentence.

The NSW Police Commissioner, Mick Fuller, said, “we don’t want to enforce these laws we want to work with you.”

NSW Police Commissioner, Mick Fuller, addressing the media this morning.

“If we see people who are consistently not listening to the health messages, not listening to listening to the law enforcement messages, messages from the Premier and the Prime Minister we will put you before the court and you can face six months goal, but we would much rather work with the community on this,” he said.

“Crimestoppers continue to grow because of the communities dissatisfaction on how some people are embracing this emergency,” he said.

Dr Kerry Chant, NSW Chief Medical Officer, confirmed there have been 127 new cases confirmed, but said, “whilst pleased, we need to be cautious, it is the long term trend in that data that is going to be important.”

On Sunday there were 174 and on Saturday 212.

There are a total of 1,185 cases acquired from overseas, 376 locally acquired, 228 locally from no known source, 129 cases under investigation, 8 deaths, 26 patients in intensive care and of those 13 have required ventilators.
