One Less Feral Cat

CATS kill six million animals each day in Australia, but the last feral cat captured in the soon to open feral proof wildlife sanctuary at Aussie Ark, will no longer be one of them.

Staff at the Ark have spent two years preparing the 4,00 hectare sanctuary, riding it of feral foxes, cats and pigs from the sanctuary and ready for the release of native endangered species on November 6, explained Tim Faulkner, president of the Aussie Ark.

“Feral animals like the fox and cat are the leading cause of our native wildlife extinctions,” said Mr Faulkner said.

“Our sanctuaries are completely feral proof and free from these pests. If we didn’t remove them, our wildlife would have almost zero chance of survival,” he said.

“We have no solutions to ridding our country of feral pests and, unfortunately, the only way we can protect our wildlife from feral pests is through secure fencing.”

“The opening of our newest sanctuary has been a long time coming, and we’re celebrating being another step closer to ensuring a long-term future for our native wildlife,” Mr Faulkner said.

The feral cats were trapped and humanely euthanised by veterinary staff.
