PREMIER Gladys Berejiklian has said the isolation measures are working as new cases of coronavirus have declined, but warned relaxing restrictions was a risk to lives.

The Premier said the current restrictions would be reviewed on a monthly basis and weighed carefully.

“Every time you relax a restriction more people will get sick and more people will die,” she said.

“New South Wales, in Australia, we are doing extremely well in containing the spread,” she said.

“We want to maintain that, the more you test the more you can find the community to community to transmissions, which is our biggest risk,” said Premier Berejiklian.

The Premier described children who were taken from the Hilton Hotel for care as a “stark horrible reminder that this can strike anybody.”

Latest statistics in NSW:

  • 2,734 confirmed cases
  • 8 new cases overnight
  • 21 deaths
  • 227 people being treated
  • 36 people in ICU
  • 22 ventilated
  • 2,900 people were tested yesterday

Mick Fuller, NSW Police Commissioner said police would be visiting caravan parks and using technologies to identify people who may have breached restrictions and travelled for Easter.

He reported that road fatalities and injuries have decreased, so too has general crime and domestic violence.
