Scone Golf: Jan 4 – 7

On a warm and windy Saturday the Scone golfers played an 18 Hole Stroke / Stableford for the first Monthly Mug of the year.

Joel Woods won the Scone RSL Group Mug with a fabulous round of 2 over par for 66 nett.

Close behind was Wayne Hedley with 41 points which won him the B Grade prize, whilst Mark Hayes made a welcome return to golf with a new knee, and had 40 points to win C Grade.

The scores continued to be hot down the order of ball winners with 35 points needed to win a ball and many missed out on a countback.

The ball winners were: Joel Woods 42, Wayne Hedley 41, Mark Hayes 40, Lindsay Hodge, Les Cottam, Simon Groom, Russell Nicholls 39, Brenan Reeves, Alan Wood, George Davidson 38, Adam Russell, Tim Smith 37, Guy Wilkinson 36, Tom Thompson and Mick Alsleben 35.

Phil McGuirk went home with 12 balls for the NTP on the 2nd / 11th with his shot to 0.43 metres including the jackpot.

Tom Thompson won the 8th / 17th with a good shot to 2.03 metres.

In the ladies 18 Hole Stableford, Julie Leckie showed the benefits of golfing in NZ as she enjoyed her home course having 35 points to be the winner.

On Saturday, January 14 the event will be an Individual Stableford with a 2B Worstball Stableford in conjunction.

Jeff Harrington and Tony O’Neill will sponsor the prizes and it will also be Round 1 of the Summer Shield.

Players are reminded to get their entry in for the Snyman Fourball Knockout by February 4.

On Wednesday, January 4 a small field played the Red Tee Challenge with Sean Constable taking first prize for his 26 points and Mick Alsleben winning the second prize on a count back with 25 points.

The ladies will resume their 9 Hole Stableford on Thursday, January 12 with play on the front 9 during January.

The winning voucher will be sponsored by McDonalds and this will be the post-game coffee venue.

On the January 19 the prize will be provided by Asser House.

A course working bee has been scheduled for Sunday, January 22 with an 8am start so come along and lend a hand for a couple of hours.
