Thursday’s Gael Holland 18 Hole Stableford Trophy Day was again played under perfect weather conditions with a good quota of ladies turning up for a great day of golf which was reflected with some hot scores coming in from the 18th hole. Judy Carmody felt more than pleased with a sizzling Stableford score of 40 points, only to be relegated to second place with Annie Woods returning to the club house with a red hot score of 41 points to take out the Gael Holland Trophy. This topped off a great week for Annie having also celebrated her birthday and wedding anniversary in the preceding days – obviously good things come in threes Annie! Judy Carmody was placed Runner Up, receiving a RSL Voucher. Ball winners were Lyn Banks 34pts, Jodie Hinde 34pts, Dordie Bragg 33pts and Cheryl Clydsdale 32pts on a count back.

Next Thursday’s competition will be Melanie’s Jewellers Trophy 18 hole Stroke/Stableford Monthly Medal and 4th Golf NSW medal.

Last weekend Scone Golf Club hosted the men’s annual Inter-District Match between the Hunter River DGA and the Newcastle DGA for the P.R. West Shield. Each team had 6 open players and 6 junior players (under18).

On Saturday, they played 4 Ball Best Ball matches with each pair made up of one open player and one junior player. At the completion of the matches Hunter River were leading by 4 matches to 2. The highlight of the day was a hole in one on the 8th hole by Hunter River player Hayden Gulliver. Hayden is from the Maitland Golf Club and holed out with a wedge from 136metres. This was Hayden’s first hole in one in a competition and the first hole in one on the new course.

On Sunday individual matches were played and Newcastle proved to strong winning 7.5 matches to the Hunter Rivers 4.5matches. This resulted in a very close overall win to Newcastle 9.5 matches to 8.5.

In fact the contest was that close that it came down to the last putt on the last green to decide the result. Unfortunately for Hunter River their player missed the putt that would have tied the match.

Both teams were full of praise for the new course design and layout. They were particular impressed with the course condition especially the greens. They thoroughly enjoyed the weekend’s golf and their official dinner on Saturday night at Centanni’s at Scone Sporties.
