Police Call for Witnesses

POLICE are calling for anyone who witnessed the head-on collision yesterday at approximately 2:30pm on the New England highway, 500 metres south of Aberdeen to come forward.

Police media have confirmed they also want any information of events that may have lead up to the collision and were interested an eyewitness account of another motorist which observed a vehicle being driven in a manner which concerned them.

People with any information which may assist the investigation are encouraged to phone the Crash Investigation Unit: 02 4929 0744.

The 52 year old female passenger of one of the vehicles died at the scene of the accident.

Her husband, the 54 year old driver of a south bound Mazada 323 was taken to the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle with a serious lower leg injuries.

The 34 year old male driver of the north bound Ford Falcon suffered serious internal injuries and was also flown to the John Hunter Hospital.

The New England Highway was reopened at 8:30pm yesterday.
