Rainfall Intense and Localised

THE Bureau of Meteorology recorded 48 millimetres of rainfall in Scone yesterday, with 30 millimetres falling within a 15 minute period during the thunderstorm.

“It was pretty intense for a short burst,” said Mohammad from the Bureau of Meteorology.

“Thunderstorms can be very hit and miss, because they are usually small cells, so we didn’t record much rainfall in Murrurundi only 1.6 millimetres, Merriwa had more though with 17.8 millimetres which fell between 4pm and 5pm and Parkville just north of Scone picked up 15.8 millimetres during the same storm,” he said.

“The rainfall in storms tends to be localised and intense and Scone really copped it yesterday,” he said.

“There is a slight chance of a thunderstorm this afternoon but nothing like yesterday, no heavy rainfall is expected,” Mohammad said.
